Objectives: This study explores the status of the use of family play therapy (FPT) in practice, as well as counselors¡® creativity.
Methods: Online survey questionnaires were collected from a total of 170 counselors working with children, adolescents, and families, based on snowball sampling. Survey responses were analyzed using SPSS 25.0.
Results: First, more than half of the respondents use FPT in family sessions for assessment or for supplementary and/or major therapeutic interventions, mostly prefering figures, cards, board games, and art. The advantages and obstacles in using FPT, utilization of FPT by family type, and the preferred therapeutic models were also reported. Second, in terms of counselors¡¯ creativity, art was the major area of the respondents¡¯ personal expression of creativity, with almost half of the respondents reporting that they use this creative approach in their practice. Regarding counselors¡¯ creative thinking, respondents perceived that they have patience, curiosity, and joy the most. Third, the use of FPT was significantly related to the counselor¡¯s gender, education, clinical creativity, confidence, and pleasure.
Conclusion: FPT issues for future development and direction were discussed.
